Evans Speed Shop Sponsored Hot Rods

Recently I was able to purchase these two great photos, the Carrillo/Betz Modified roadster & the Earl Evans Lakester photo.

Now the great thing is that these photos weren't taken at the Petersen Motorama or National Roadster Show but a Hot Rod show in Portland Oregon. The time the photos were taken would be late '51 to mid '52 I will try and find out exactly when this show was.

I recently purchased the negative for this photo. #57 Ralph Schenck's modified powered by a 1925 Chev 4 with Oldsmobile 3-port head. Last seen in 70s when Duane Steele owned it.

Ralph Schenck Streamliner

With the Hot Rod Homecoming event this past weekend I thought I would post this image of the Ralph Schenck Streamliner which was in attendance.

Phil Remington Modified Mystery.

So where did it go? According to the article in The Rodder's Journal it was taken from Phil's parents garage, the person said he had Phil's permission to run the car. So I was looking thru my copy of Hot Rod Handbook (Fawcett book 129) and imagine my surprise to see a close up of Phil's Modified at a Saugus. So start searching the barns and out houses in the area you may just find an icon.

R.I.P. Phil Remington, 'Mr Fix It' has died age 92

Just read Phil Remington, 'Mr Fix It' died age 92. Phil's modified was one of the most beautiful well constructed cars to run the dry lakes post war and his work with Lance Reventlow, Carroll Shelby & Dan Gurney was legendary. R.I.P. Phil.

Ray Bowles T

Bought new by Hi Halfhill, sold to Pommer, then went to Neal was raced on the dry lakes in the early 30s, Frank Pommer bought it back and had Frank Kurtis customise it, sold again, then in 1940 Chuck Schultz bought it. Ray Bowles bought it in the late 40s ran the '49 PRC Reliability Run and won best appearing car was on the January 1950 Hot Rod cover. Sold again in 1952 and appeared in Hop Up Jan 1953, sold again appeared in August '55 Car Craft owner Skip Hedrich sold it to an Airman and on his way north, the T caught fire and burnt to the ground the remains were scrapped. All because the airman did a shoddy job to repair a leaking fuel hose.
